Greece stacks armored vehicles on 'Islands with Non-Military Status'
There were moments when Greece sent armored vehicles to the “Islands with Non-Military Status” (GASA) in the Aegean, in defiance of international law. It was seen that the landing ships were transporting military vehicles especially donated by the USA to Lesbos and Samos.
The activities of Greece against GASAs in violation of international law were viewed. According to the information received from security sources, the UAVs of the Turkish Armed Forces performing mission flights in the Aegean detected a movement and determined that two Greek landing craft were on the way to Lesbos and Samos. It was revealed that the ships in question delivered 23 tactical wheeled armored vehicles to Lesbos with GASA status, and 18 tactical wheeled armored vehicles to Samos. It was noteworthy that the armored vehicles were among the vehicles sent to Alexandroupolis Port by the USA.
“Unacceptable”
Security sources described these events on September 18 and September 21 as the clearest indication that Greece continues to arm the islands close to Turkey and violate GASA status. The sources, who stated that they are trying to plant weapons donated by the USA, in GASAs, evaluated these aggressive actions of Greece, which is an ally in NATO, against international law and the spirit of alliance, as “never acceptable” against the calls for dialogue and good neighborliness.

Emphasizing that Greece has violated the non-military status of these two islands for many years and has deployed weapons there, security sources said that with these latest shipments, the United States has replaced some of the vehicles on these islands with tactical wheeled armored vehicles donated to it. Recalling Turkey’s efforts to resolve problems within the scope of dialogue and international law, as well as its invitations to come together for a solution, the sources said, “The fact that Greece does not even attend the meetings in response to all invitations and makes such provocations increases the tension, who is irreconcilable, aggressive and unlawful. It is a clear indication that he is engaged in activities,” he said.
