Is working marine engineering safe for women?
I think Marine Engineering is NOT safe if you are not working safely, careful, and lack common sense; No for Girls and Boys.
I worked with three girls ( Seawoman ) on one of my ships: 2nd / 3rd officer and cadet Engineer. My experience is worth sharing, which I will do some other time.
To elaborate on the answer to your question,
1. First of all Your safety is YOUR responsibility and your hands
. In the Engine room machines, and structures can kill you in an instant or leave you handicapped for the rest of your life. So along with the training and education, you receive in college, the one thing that will really save your life (trust me on this) is your ‘presence of mind’. Know what you’re handling, know what you’re doing. If in doubt, STOP!
2 . If you’re asking about the safety of women onboard like harassment by fellow shipmates, seniors, etc:
I can say No. Seaman or Seawoman ware drunks and womanizers only when they go ashore (just kidding:)), but trust me, they are much softer and friendly at heart when you work with them.
